Claudio Ranieri louds Leicester victory over Copenhagen

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri says he is proud after his side won a third consecutive Champions League game on Tuesday evening.

The Foxes stunned everyone with their Premier League victory last season, and their 1-0 win over Copenhagen at the King Power Stadium has put them firmly in the driving seat in Group G.

They have picked up a maximum of nine points and kept clean sheets in each match, but are still suffering a stuttering start in their league title defence.

While Ranieri spoke of his pride following the European win, he also explained how Leicester’s domestic slump was not out of the ordinary and is something they are looking to rectify.

“I’m very proud. From one side, I am very proud, from the other side, when I think about the Premier League, I [feel] anger,” the manager told a post-match press conference.

“But it’s OK because all throughout my career, this has happened. When for the first time, you go and play in a big competition, you lose something when you go back in your league. It’s normal but we want to change this.

“When we play in the Champions League, you are switched on, you are very smart and focused in that situation.

“You spend a lot of mental energy in the Champions League so when you come back a little more down, it is normal but we want to change this mood because the Premier League is important for us now.

“The Premier League is our priority but of course, in the Champions League now, after one month and three matches, we are in a good position. Our destiny is in our hands.”

Riyad Mahrez netted his third goal in three Champions League appearances just before half-time to seal the win over an unbeaten Copenhagen, with Kasper Schmeichel making a last ditch fingertip save to keep the visitors from snatching a late equaliser.
