Manchester United received a welcome fitness boost ahead of their Europa League semifinal first-leg trip to Celta Vigo when defenders Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones all returned to training on Wednesday morning, along with midfielder Paul Pogba.
Manager Jose Mourinho saw United’s injury problems grow during Sunday’s 1-1 home draw with Swansea as defenders Luke Shaw and Eric Bailly were forced off.
Bailly was back training along with longer-term absentees Smalling and Jones before the squad’s scheduled flight to northern Spain later on Wednesday.
Pogba has missed United’s last two matches but is expected to return on Thursday as Mourinho’s side seek to win the Europa League for the first time in their history, and earn a place in next season’s Champions League in the process.
Youngsters Matty Willock and Scott McTominay were also present in an unusually large group of 23 players. United’s travelling squad for Europa League away games usually features around 20, which suggests some of those who trained will not go to Spain.
Wayne Rooney trained ahead of the trip to Anderlecht last month but did not make the trip to Belgium.
