Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge runs the fastest marathon in history

Eliud Kipchoge from Kenya narrowly missed his two-hour attempt but in the process ran the fastest marathon ever in 2 hours, 24 seconds at Nike’s Breaking2 event in Italy on Saturday.

The reigning Olympic champion competed with Ethiopia’s Lelisa Desisa and Eritrea’s Zersenay Tadese at the Formula One track in Monza – an event was designed by Nike to break through the two-hour barrier.

Despite Kipchoge’s phenomenal achievement, fellow countryman Dennis Kimetto’s world record of 2hours 2 minutes and 57 seconds set in 2014 will continue to stand due to the pace-setting arrangement at the unofficial event.

Meanwhile, marathon enthusiasts and Kipchoge supporters from across the globe heaped praise for the Kenyan on social media.
