Roger Federer to skip French Open
Roger Federer has announced that he won’t play in the French Open in order to prolong his career and will instead prepare for Wimbledon.

The Swiss legend, who defied logic to lift his 18th major title at the Australian Open in January after being out of tennis for six months, will be absent from the clay-court event, which starts on May 28, for the second year running after missing last year’s tournament through injury.

Roger Federer to skip French Open

Federer posted an open letter entitled “Roger to skip Roland Garros” on his website on Monday and explained his absence from Paris was part of his bid to “try and play on the ATP World Tour for many years to come”.

“Regrettably, I’ve decided not to participate in the French Open,” said the 35-year-old.

“I’ve been working really hard, both on and off the court, during the last month but in order to try and play on the ATP World Tour for many years to come, I feel it’s best to skip the clay-court season this year and prepare for the grass and hard-court seasons,” added Federer, who won his sole Roland Garros title in 2009.

Anthony Joshua to Face Joseph Parker in March

WBA and IBF champion of the world, Anthony Joshua has putten  his titles on the line in a quest to add another world title triumph to his legacy.

Joshua will box against WBO title holder Joseph Parker in a heavyweight unification clash in Cardiff on March 31.

After 20 straight victories, all by knockout, Joshua hopes to take another step towards becoming the undisputed world heavyweight champion.

According to AJ;

“I like to fight, that’s the main objective, and it’s showing I’m never shy of a competition,” said Joshua, who is a Sky Ambassador.

“He’s a respectable competitor, he is the WBO heavyweight champion of the world, so it’s like one step closer to adding a strap to my legacy. That’s what makes it exciting.”

Parker has however sworn to rip away Joshua’s two world titles by racking up his 25th straight victory. In his words;

“Anthony Joshua is in for a huge shock,” Parker said. “A couple of months ago I heard him say ‘why should I be worried about this little kid from New Zealand’?

“Well, now he’s about to find out. The world is about to find out whether AJ can really take a punch. My entire existence is now devoted to proving what the boxing world already knows.”

Chelsea intensifies Andy Carroll Chase

Reports making the rounds today reveals that Chelsea are hugely interested in signing Andy Carroll from West Ham this month.

The Premier League champions has suffered a third successive goalless draw, for the first time in their history, against Leicester City on Saturday seems to have lost faith in Álvaro Morata.

The Spaniard has scored only twice in the top flight since mid-November and has gone five games without a goal.

Antonio Conte has now turned to Carroll for rescue as the Italian man continues to be reluctant to play Michy Batshuayi who will possibly be going on loan to Sevilla if a replacement can be secured.

Andy Carroll signed for West Ham from Liverpool in 2013 for £15m, and has seen his impact limited by injury in the years since.

Verge24 understands that the move for Chelsea signing Carroll may be a short-term solution before a summer recruitment drive, and West Ham would take some persuasion to part with Carroll on a six‑month loan deal.

David Moyes suggested last week that he would not want to see any of his forwards depart. Yet that may not dissuade Chelsea from exploring the option, reflecting the need to pep up the forward line amid a cluttered schedule.
