Nigerian-British actor, John Boyega is the cover star for GQ magazine’s August 2017 issue.

From Half of A Yellow Sun to Star Wars, John has easily found a place in our hearts. His philosophy is simple: “Believe in the thing.”

He approaches every role with total zeal. This is a young man with total self-belief whose agent encouraged him not to take just any old role in Holby City or EastEnders, but to aspire to become a star blessed with some of the iconic power of Denzel Washington and Will Smith.

The Star Wars star talks extensively about fame, marriage and how he landed his role in Star Wars. He said:

You don’t see one black person in Lord of the Rings. I ain’t paying money to always see one type of person on-screen.… We can ruffle up some feathers.

He also discusses his new movie Detroit set during the city’s 1967 riot, the bulk of the action taking place during one horrible night in a hotel when a group of white police officers tormented a group of young black men and two white women under the guise of keeping the city safe.

The film somehow manages to marry the unrelenting tension of The Hurt Locker with the unrelenting cruelty of 12 Years a Slave. Boyega plays Melvin Dismukes, a black security guard who bore petrified and mostly paralysed, witness to the savagery of the police.

He is dressed extremely dapper in the photo shoot with the magazine, rocking a Ralph Lauren suit jacket and Tom Ford sneakers.

Hollywood Walk of Fame: Mary J. Blige Gets a STAR

American singer Mary J. Blige got what could be called a perfect birthday gift as she turned 47 on January 11th, 2018.

The nine time Grammy award winning R’n’B singer was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

During the unveiling ceremony, Mary J. recalled her childhood in the projects in New York and the big dreams that helped her become whom she is today. In her words;

“I loved to sing, It set me free from all of the negativity and all of the confusion happening outside of our home. God gave me the strength to keep steppin’ and keep my head up regardless of what anybody thought about me, regardless of what anybody said about me.

I see myself clear and it’s not all pretty, but I accept the beautiful mess that I am because it’s an imperfect me, still learning, still growing, still Mary though” she said.

Sean Combs whom is also known as Diddy and Blige’s longtime friend joined the unveiling. He said;

“this is about our sister getting her star, her true recognition. But this thing is also about family. We’ve been through a whole lot. We started from nothing.

I used to pick Mary up from the projects. I had me a Volkswagen Rabbit. I had two rims on it because I couldn’t afford four we would just drive down the highway in New York, and we would just dream. We would say, ‘We wanna be somebody. We wanna be big, we wanna be something for our people. And we wanna come and shake up the world.’ And we did that.”

Mary J Blige has eight multi-platinum music albums to her name and has sold over 50 million copies worldwide.
