Top Kenyan electoral commission member Resigns, Fled to USRoselyn Akombe, a senior member of the Kenyan electoral commission, has resigned and have fled the country amid death threats as the country braces up for next week’s presidential election re-run.

Roselyn fled to the United States of America barely a week after opposition leader Raila Odinga announced that he won’t be contesting in the presidential election re-run.

Speaking to BBC Newsday from New York, Ms. Roselyn Akombe recounted the murder of one of her colleagues Chris Msando, head of IT department in the election commission.

“You’ll be suicidal to think that nothing will happen to you.I have never felt the kind of fear that I felt in my own country,” she said.

According to her, the IEBC was under political “siege”, unable to reach consensus or take any decisions.

Roselyn stated that the death threats were anonymous as a result she no longer “feel safe enough to be able to go home” in the foreseeable future.

The person of the IEBC, Wafula Chebukati in a statement said he is saddened to learn of Ms. Roselyn Akombe’s resignation.
