Tiger Woods Pleads Guilty in Court

Golf champ Tiger Woods has pleaded guilty to reckless driving and agreed to enter a diversion programme in order to avoid a DUI charge.

Woods was arrested in May after he was found asleep in his car near his home in Jupiter Island, Florida.

A toxicology report revealed that Mr. Woods had prescription drugs in his system, but no alcohol.

At the wake of his arrest, Woods issued an apology and blamed the incident on prescription medication he was taking to manage pain following back surgery.

Woods pleaded guilty on Friday at the Palm Beach County, Florida, and also agreed to spend a year on probation and pay a $250 fine and court costs.

Tiger Woods releases statement following Arrest
Superstar golfer Tiger Woods has released a statement following his arrest in Jupiter, Florida.

He was arrested on the suspicion of Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

Jupiter police spokesperson Kristin Tightler said that he was booked into a local jail at 3AM but was released on his on recognizance with no bond at 10.50AM.

In a statement published by People, Woods said:

I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions. I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved.

What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.

I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too. I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again. I fully cooperated with law enforcement, and I would like to personally thank the representatives of the Jupiter Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office for their professionalism.

Tiger Woods Sidelined for the rest of the Season

Tiger Woods has withdrawn from next week’s PGA Championship and will be out for the rest of the season, according to agent Mark Steinberg.

Woods who has been out of action since the Wyndham Championship 11 months ago and has had two surgeries on his back since.

His absence from the year’s final major means he will have missed all four in a calendar year for the first time in his illustrious career.

“Continuing to make progress, but simply not ready for PGA,” Steinberg wrote in an email to The Golf Channel.

“Will not play in the 15/16 season and will continue to rehab and work hard to then assess when he starts play for the 16/17 season.”

This year’s PGA takes place at Baltusrol in New Jersey, and has been brought forward in the schedule to accommodate the Olympic Games tournament in Rio in early August.

Woods’ place at Baltusrol has been taken by America’s Harold Varner III.
