Zimbabwean Military Might Take Over – General Chiwenga

Zimbabwe’s army chief General Chiwenga has warned that the Army might have to take over the affairs of the country if those “purging” the country’s ruling Zanu-PF party doesn’t stop.

General Chiwenga‘s comment comes a week after President Robert Mugabe sacked his deputy Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Zimbabwean Military Might Take Over - General Chiwenga

The General appeared at a news conference in company of over 90 senior army officers, even as he refused to make reference to anyone’s name.

With Emmerson Mnangagwa now out of the way, President Mugabe‘s wife Grace, is now considered as the favourite to succeed her husband.

While speaking at the army headquarters, General Chiwenga condemned the removal of Mnangagwa – saying that the removal of people who were involved in the independence struggle, like Mr Mnangagwa, would not be tolerated.

In his words;

“The current purging, which is clearly targeting members of the party with a liberation background, must stop forthwith,” he told those gathered for the news conference.

“We must remind those behind the current treacherous shenanigans that when it comes to matters of protecting our revolution, the military will not hesitate to step in.”
