How Obasanjo Knelt Down to Beg Atiku in Front of all of Us

How Obasanjo Knelt Down to Beg Atiku in Front of all of Us

How Obasanjo Knelt Down to Beg Atiku in Front of all of Us

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Chief Charles Idahosa, whom was also a former Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Edo state while speaking to the press on the defection of the former vice president of Nigeria Alhaji Atiku Abubakar made some shocking revelation Nigeria never knew.

According to Idahosa whom also served as the former Special Adviser on political matters to former Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, the main reasons Atiku dumped the  APC was because of his personal interests considering the fact that he won’t achieve his political ambition of becoming President there.

How Obasanjo Knelt Down to Beg Atiku in Front of all of Us

In Idahosa’s words;

Atiku is a man I know very well and I have great respect for. I have worked with him before in the company of other notable Nigerians like Chief James Ibori, late DSP Alamieyeseigha and others. We tried to work for him in 2003 to realise his presidential ambition but he missed it at that point.

Elaborating oh how Atiku missed the opportunity on becoming the president of Nigeria in 2003, Idahosa said;

Atiku was a protégé of the late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua. He has a political machinery that cuts across the country. When Yar’Adua was in prison during the Abacha era, he confided in some of his lieutenants that in case he dies in prison, they should ensure they draft in Olusegun Obasanjo in order to compensate the South West for what happened to the late MKO Abiola.

Yar’Adua’s key man then was Atiku so Obasanjo was forced to work with him. When Obasanjo was contesting as president, he had no money. Atiku provided all the funds. I know all this because I was part and parcel of the whole thing. Having agreed on Obasanjo, they needed people to execute the project. It was Atiku that called Chief Anthony Anenih to lead the campaign of Obasanjo. I was the first person Chief Anenih took from Benin in 1998.

We usually meet in one very popular hotel in Abuja. That was where the whole plans started before we went to Jos for the convention. Atiku had already won election as governor of Adamawa state because that was his ambition then. But Obasanjo insisted that he wanted him as his running mate so he contested as running mate to Obasanjo despite his position as the governor-elect of Adamawa state.

According to sources available to us that time, Obasanjo said he will do a single term but after that, he decided to go for second term. I was physically present at Rivers state Governor’s Lodge when the heat became too much and Obasanjo in the presence of all of us knelt down in front of Atiku begging him to allow him do a second term.

I think that was how Atiku missed the opportunity by agreeing to Obasanjo’s plea. His thought was that at least, if Obasanjo completes his second term, he will hand over to him but you all know the story of Third Term Agenda and that was how they fell apart. Atiku had the best opportunity to become president in 2003 and lost it.

He had the support of PDP governors then. Now, in the process of jumping from one place to another to realise his ambition, he has lost woefully.

Speaking on why he thinks Atiku has been jumping from one party to another, Idahosa said;

He is in a better position to tell Nigerians why he wants to be president having been Vice- President for eight years. I think he is just being driven by the ambition to become the president of Nigeria and will stop at nothing to realise that dream.

The former Vice- President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar last week left APC which he joined in 2014 to return to the PDP which he left then citing internal irregularities in the ruling party.

How Corrupt PDP Defectors Financed Buhari's Campaign - Report

How Corrupt PDP Defectors Financed Buhari’s Campaign

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP members at the National Assembly has fired back at President Muhammadu Buhari over his statement saying that looters would not return to power in 2019.

President Buhari, in a shroud reference to the PDP, on Thursday at an interactive session with community leaders and stakeholders in Kano said;

“Those who ruled Nigeria without vision and looted the nation ’ s treasury are the same people boasting that they will displace the APC government and return to office .

“ We will wait and see , if they think Nigerians are ignorant . They have the guts to declare their intention to reclaim office . ”

However, the PDP caucus in the House of Representatives , on Saturday , said that Buhari was a major beneficiary of funds allegedly looted by PDP leaders .

Mrs. Binta Bello, the Deputy Minority Whip of the House made the statement saying that Buhari should rather apologise to Nigerians for being unable to fulfill his campaign promises instead of attacking the PDP the opposition party. In her words;

“He (Buhari ) has the right to attack us and we have the right to criticise him too by telling him the truth. That is the beauty of democracy .

“ The people he now calls looters were the same people who funded his campaign in 2015 .

“ His campaign in 2015 was different from his campaign in previous years. In 2015 , he had all the money to spend . The looters , who left the PDP , gave him the money . Why didn ’ t he reject it or tell Nigerians how he raised the campaign money ?

“ Let’ s face the facts , the President has failed in delivering his campaign promises. Where is the 2017 budget ? What can he boast to have achieved in terms of implementing the budget ?
“ They can see that he is in power and yet there is nothing to celebrate in terms of achievement . PDP has achievements it can point to . ”

Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the senator representing Imo East) also described Buhari’s comment as far from the truth. According to him;

“How can he say our party is a party of looters ? What is happening in APC now ? Are they not looting ? I don’ t agree with him . ”

Similarly, Senator Mathew Urhoghide totally disagreed with President Buhari saying;

“I don’ t agree with the President because 80 per cent of the looters in the then PDP government are now with the President in APC and are still looting and others are waiting to loot, ”.
