Valencia 1-1 Barcelona: La Liga Needs Goal Line Technology Now

It was a night of drama as a late Jordi Alba goal salvaged a point for Barcelona moments after a Lionel Messi goal controversially got ruled out at Mestalla on Sunday.

The match was Jordi Alba‘s 200th start for Barca as he perfectly slotted in a Messi’s cross to hand Ernesto Valverde’s side balance at the top of La Liga.

Rodrigo  gave Valencia the lead on the hour mark after he met Jose Gaya’s low cross to score from close range but the hosts could not hold out as Alba struck to ensure a share of the spoils.

The game will be remembered, however, for the match officials’ failure to award Messi with a first-half opener after the Valencia goalkeeper spilled his shot a yard over the line.

he result means both Valencia and Barcelona preserve their unbeaten record in La Liga this season, but the only incident of note in a cagey opening 45 minutes will leave the Spanish football federation questioning the continued absence of goal-line technology.

After Paulinho and Ivan Rakitic had tested Neto with long-range efforts, Barcelona felt they broke the deadlock as Messi met Luis Suarez’s cross to fire a left-foot shot first time that was spilled over the line by Neto.

As Messi wheeled away in celebration, the Argentine could not believe his eyes as Valencia broke down the other end and very nearly scored through Simone Zaza with several Barcelona players caught up the pitch.

Chelsea intensifies Andy Carroll Chase

Reports making the rounds today reveals that Chelsea are hugely interested in signing Andy Carroll from West Ham this month.

The Premier League champions has suffered a third successive goalless draw, for the first time in their history, against Leicester City on Saturday seems to have lost faith in Álvaro Morata.

The Spaniard has scored only twice in the top flight since mid-November and has gone five games without a goal.

Antonio Conte has now turned to Carroll for rescue as the Italian man continues to be reluctant to play Michy Batshuayi who will possibly be going on loan to Sevilla if a replacement can be secured.

Andy Carroll signed for West Ham from Liverpool in 2013 for £15m, and has seen his impact limited by injury in the years since.

Verge24 understands that the move for Chelsea signing Carroll may be a short-term solution before a summer recruitment drive, and West Ham would take some persuasion to part with Carroll on a six‑month loan deal.

David Moyes suggested last week that he would not want to see any of his forwards depart. Yet that may not dissuade Chelsea from exploring the option, reflecting the need to pep up the forward line amid a cluttered schedule.

Kelechi Iheanacho Going Nowhere – Claude Puel

Leicester City coach Claude Puel has dismissed speculation of his £25 million striker Kelechi Iheanacho leaving due to lack of playing time this January.

Puel refused to write off the former Manchester City forward, who has found the back of the net just once for the club this season.

Kelechi Iheanacho signed for Leicester in the summer from Manchester City but has made just two Premier League starts for the foxes.

The Nigerian Super Eagles attacking forward is expected to be on his way out of the club for a possible playing time in a quest to guarantee his place in the team to represent Nigeria in Russia later this year.

Last week, Nigeria national team handler Gernot Rohr said that he expects Iheanacho and his teammate Ahmed Musa to leave the King Power Stadium because of their lack of playing time, Puel has however dismissed any exit talk. According to him;

“We don’t know about what the national trainer said. We will see. We have discussions with different players. For example Iheanacho is a young player, arrived this season, and he will stay with us.

“I cannot talk about details about players. It is important to have a good balance in the team and have a good game time for the players.

“Iheanacho is a young player, he signed this season with us and we have to develop him. I hope he can have more game time in the second half of the season.”

He is a young player who arrives in a good team where there is competition and he needs to keep working and improve.”

Leicester will visit Chelsea on Saturday in the Premier League with Jamie Vardy fit after a groin injury.
