2019 Elections: I'll Easily Defeat Buhari - Atiku Abubakar

Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar in a new interview boasted that he will easily defeat President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 Presidential elections.

According to Atiku, Buhari has become politically weak after squandering the goodwill Nigerians accorded him during the 2015 elections.

In his words;

“I will definitely beat him this time. He has wasted a lot of his massive goodwill,”

Atiku Abubakar made the statement during an interview with Dele Momodu for his column which was published Saturday in The Boss Newspaper he publishes.

Atiku alleged that many associates of President Buhari are furious, but they are silent about their disapproval of the president and are waiting for the right time to strike back.

In his words;

“A lot of people are disgruntled but keeping quiet and lying low,” Mr. Abubakar said. “Our youths are suffering terribly and now they are being sold into slavery.”

“Everyone knows my track record of inviting and attracting a good team and giving them the opportunity to work professionally. Nigerians are tired of leaders who cannot think big and work big,”

Atiku  Abubakar pledged that he would be ready from day one should Nigerians elect him president in 2019.

Atiku became the vice-president from 1999-2007 dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress last week Friday, citing alleged failure by the Buhari administration to improve the quality of life in the country and neglect of the youth in federal cabinet appointment.

The national spokesperson for the APC, Bolaji Abdullahi, while speaking to PREMIUM TIMES by telephone Saturday afternoon rubbished Atiku’s assertion, saying that Buhari would handily beat the former president should he stand for re-election.

“I believe that the reasons Nigerians voted for President Buhari in 2015 are still pertinent. They voted President Buhari because they needed a leader who has integrity, strong on corruption and capable of defeating Boko Haram.”

“If he stands for election in 2019, we believe Nigerians would still vote for him,”

President Buhari has not yet declared his intention to seek re-election although his recent actions and comments have strongly suggested he will.

How Corrupt PDP Defectors Financed Buhari’s Campaign

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP members at the National Assembly has fired back at President Muhammadu Buhari over his statement saying that looters would not return to power in 2019.

President Buhari, in a shroud reference to the PDP, on Thursday at an interactive session with community leaders and stakeholders in Kano said;

“Those who ruled Nigeria without vision and looted the nation ’ s treasury are the same people boasting that they will displace the APC government and return to office .

“ We will wait and see , if they think Nigerians are ignorant . They have the guts to declare their intention to reclaim office . ”

However, the PDP caucus in the House of Representatives , on Saturday , said that Buhari was a major beneficiary of funds allegedly looted by PDP leaders .

Mrs. Binta Bello, the Deputy Minority Whip of the House made the statement saying that Buhari should rather apologise to Nigerians for being unable to fulfill his campaign promises instead of attacking the PDP the opposition party. In her words;

“He (Buhari ) has the right to attack us and we have the right to criticise him too by telling him the truth. That is the beauty of democracy .

“ The people he now calls looters were the same people who funded his campaign in 2015 .

“ His campaign in 2015 was different from his campaign in previous years. In 2015 , he had all the money to spend . The looters , who left the PDP , gave him the money . Why didn ’ t he reject it or tell Nigerians how he raised the campaign money ?

“ Let’ s face the facts , the President has failed in delivering his campaign promises. Where is the 2017 budget ? What can he boast to have achieved in terms of implementing the budget ?
“ They can see that he is in power and yet there is nothing to celebrate in terms of achievement . PDP has achievements it can point to . ”

Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the senator representing Imo East) also described Buhari’s comment as far from the truth. According to him;

“How can he say our party is a party of looters ? What is happening in APC now ? Are they not looting ? I don’ t agree with him . ”

Similarly, Senator Mathew Urhoghide totally disagreed with President Buhari saying;

“I don’ t agree with the President because 80 per cent of the looters in the then PDP government are now with the President in APC and are still looting and others are waiting to loot, ”.
